Second National Survey of Coastal Pollution

On September 2nd, Fundacion Patagonia Natural conducted the Second National Survey on Coastal Pollution. On that day, 3,400 volunteers from all the country walked along 2,300 km of coastline monitoring areas full of garbage and registering oiled birds. Interjurisdictional Coastal Marine Park of Austral Patagonia

On August 8, the Government of the Chubut Province, the National Government, National Parks Administration, Wildlife Conservation Society and FPN signed the agreement to create the Interjurisdictional Coastal Marine Park of Austral Patagonia.

Postgraduate course: Specialization in Communication and Environment

Fundación Patagonia Natural and La Plata University have created the postgraduate course: Specialization in Communication and Environment. This course is given at Universidad de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco, Comodoro Rivadavia.

First Fisheries Observers Meeting

In 2006 FPN, Instituto de Biología Marina y Pesquera  “Alte. Storni” and Aves Argentinas/Birdlife organized the First Fisheries Observers Meeting. The results of this meeting were presented at the 5th International Fisheries Observer Conference (Victoria, BC Canadá, 15-18  May 2007)” as a poster: “NGOs and Observers Programs in Argentina: a starting point to improve the interjurisdictional communication” (Blanco G., INIDEP; Caille G., FPN; González R., IBMyP; Rabuffetti F. AA/BirdLife; and Cañete G., FVSA) (www.fisheriesobserverconference.com). We are now organizing the second meeting for this year in Puerto Madryn.

Manual on Good Fishing Practices for the Patagonian Coastal Zone

FPN presented the Manual on Good Fishing Practices for the Patagonian Coastal Zone, to national authorities and to representatives of the fisheries sector. FPN started a feasibility analysis for a certification system of responsible fisheries on the basis of this manual.

Interactive CD “Coastal and Marine Biodiversity of Patagonia”

The Education Department of FPN is distributing to Patagonian schools an interactive CD called Coastal and Marine Biodiversity of Patagonia.
